About Pomodoro Timer
Pomodoro Timer is a free online focus timer with a floating window that stays on top of your other apps. No sign-up, no app store, no paywall — it loads fast, works on any device, and runs entirely in your browser, with your settings and history saved locally on your own device.
Who runs this
Pomodoro Timer is built and maintained by Gazala Farheen — one person working independently, not a company and not a venture-backed startup with a growth department. There is no support desk: mail sent to gazalafarheen023@gmail.com arrives in a real inbox and is answered by the person who can act on it.
The experience behind this site is practical rather than clinical: I use this timer every day, built it because the ones I was using got in the way, and read the source material behind the claims made here. I am not a clinician or a researcher, so where a page touches attention or health it cites published work and links out instead of substituting my own opinion for it.
How it works
The countdown is driven by a real wall-clock deadline rather than a counter ticking inside the page. That distinction is the whole reason the timer is trustworthy: a page-based counter drifts or stalls when the browser throttles a background tab, whereas a deadline-based one is simply the difference between now and a fixed future moment, so it stays exact through tab switches, a locked or sleeping screen, and full page reloads.
Press Float and the countdown pops into a small always-on-top window using your browser's Document Picture-in-Picture support, so it stays visible over your editor, PDF, or video. Browser support for that feature varies; where it is unavailable, the timer falls back to running in a normal tab. There is also a free desktop build whose window floats above every application on your system rather than only over browser content.
Why we built it
Most online Pomodoro timers fail in one of three ways: they demand an account before you can start, they lose the countdown the moment you switch tabs, or they are so cluttered that starting a session takes longer than the break does. We wanted one that starts in a single click, keeps perfect time whatever the browser does to the tab, and stays visible while you work somewhere else — and nothing beyond that.
Your data
Your tasks, settings, and completed sessions are stored in your browser's local storage on the device you are using. They are not sent to us, we cannot read them, and there is no account to create. The practical trade-off is that nothing syncs between your phone and your laptop, and clearing your browser data clears the history permanently — we have no copy to restore. What third-party analytics and advertising partners collect is set out in full in our Privacy Policy.
How this site is funded
By display advertising and by direct reader support through Bondin; there is no other revenue source. Every feature — the timer, custom durations, presets, task list, session history, themes, the floating window, and the desktop app — is free, with no premium tier and nothing held back behind a payment. We do not sell your data and we do not run affiliate links; where we mention another product, we are not paid to do so. Our comparison page says plainly when a competitor is the better choice for you, which is the standard we intend to keep.
How we write the content
The guides on this site describe a time-management method devised by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It is a practitioner's system, not a clinically tested intervention, and we try to say so wherever it is relevant rather than dressing the method up as settled science. Where we reference an underlying idea — spaced repetition, active recall, ultradian rhythms — we link out so you can check it yourself. If you find a factual error, tell us and we will correct it.
A note on accuracy
The countdown is driven by your device's system clock, not by a server. That is what keeps it accurate in a backgrounded tab — but it also means a badly wrong system clock will throw it off. The timer is intended for focus sessions and everyday timing, not for anything where a timing error would be costly or dangerous. See our Terms & Conditions for the full disclaimer.
